How So?

Message:

Not seeing this as anything novel nor interesting. Seems like same old stuff to me. The debate about "no playable gnomes" is about equal to "do dwarven women have beards"? Who gives a crap either way? If WotC were striving for something that would model like an MMO or have an interesting way for anyone to pick-up the game and play, well, that's not there. It will still be +l swords, xps and counting gold. Bigger monsters have bigger attacks, repeat. Magic will be too unwieldy at high levels. Save or die, 15% chance for any hero, even the greatest.

I also find the editors, both females, to be suspect. Never met a good female ref; never will. Expect the game emphasis to be on non-combat, yet offer no mechanics as to how to run romance, mystery, an ecology, an economy or anything else.

D&D bookform is crap. We knew it in 85'; we know it today. Even Gygax regretted not offering his name to Diablo, when he saw it was the closest thing to his vision of table top gaming. Now that the Man is dead, we'll never know if he sees WoW as an evolution or deviation from his vision. Maybe in some locked drawer the source notes of Dangerous Journeys can be found and published. I am still waiting for something like the blue book, which gave a kernal of how-to run a campaign, with practical suggestions like using the Outdoor Survival Map.

Yours,
