Message:I tried making a ruleset where each person had a great thing, lots of middle things and a few lousy things, all to be discovered. Simplistically, STR 18, couple 15s and rest 7s. Or you might be the 18 INT or 18 Dex. Actually, Skills rather than Stats seems to have better potential.
All fell flat once players know who they are. In the discovery, they must change. Hard to write, easier to code. But the players don't truly want to be the guy who finds out he's just the 18 CON (or Ship Quartermaster).
The horror series, Demon Hunters, has some complex mix-match, where roles change. Swaggers transfers or is lost. Fell flat. I just might not have had the scenario to make it work. Something simple, locked room mystery or slay the beast.
I do recall DoMaSaMaHa rather fondly, convincing the heroic guy that in-fact he's the bound slave about to be executed. A whole game of rules to repeat that would be difficult to achieve and incredible.
